Kanishk Aggarwal: From Rank 279 to Rank 72 — A Journey of Relentless Pursuit
Kanishk Aggarwal's journey to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is one defined by persistence across five attempts. In his previous attempt, Kanishk had already cracked the UPSC examination, securing AIR 279 — a remarkable achievement in itself. However, the rank was not high enough to earn him the coveted IAS cadre. Instead, he was allotted the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and began his training accordingly.
Rather than settling into his new role, Kanishk refused to abandon his dream. He made the bold decision to appear for the UPSC exam once more — this time while simultaneously undergoing IRS training. Juggling official duties by day and exam preparation by evening, he dedicated 7 to 8 hours daily to self-study. His strategy was straightforward yet demanding: complete focus on self-study, minimising external distractions, and staying away from social media entirely.
"Social media can be a major distraction during preparation," Kanishk has said, adding that he restricted his digital engagement to WhatsApp purely for staying in touch with family. This disciplined approach paid off handsomely — in his fifth attempt, he leapt from AIR 279 to AIR 72, a jump that will now secure him a place in the IAS, fulfilling a long-cherished goal.
Kanishk credits his success to his parents — Satinder Aggarwal and Meenakshi Aggarwal — and his teachers, whose constant support kept him motivated through years of hard work. His story stands as a testament to the fact that a setback is never the end of the road; it is merely a stepping stone to greater heights.
Kanishk Aggarwal's leap from AIR 279 to AIR 72 shows that persistence and disciplined preparation can transform an already impressive achievement into a dream fulfilled.
Neeraj Yadav: The Officer Who Chose Purpose Over a ₹30 Lakh Package
Neeraj Yadav's path to the UPSC result list is equally remarkable, though his roots lie in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. A 2016 graduate of IIT Guwahati with a B.Tech in Mathematics and Computer Science, Neeraj was offered a lucrative campus placement with an annual package of ₹30 lakh. In a decision that surprised many around him, he turned it down — choosing instead to prepare for the civil services.
His civil services journey has been long and varied. In 2020, he cleared the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination and served as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (BDPO) in Kaithal and Rewari districts. In 2023, he achieved AIR 104 in the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination but chose not to join, preferring to remain with HCS and continue his pursuit of the IAS.
Even while undergoing SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) training within HCS, Neeraj continued his UPSC preparation — studying 8 to 9 hours daily after official duties. This relentless commitment has now earned him AIR 598 in UPSC Civil Services 2025, paving the way for his entry into the all-India services.
Neeraj attributes his success to his father Prem Singh Yadav and his mother Suresh Devi, whose blessings and encouragement kept him going through every phase of his journey. He is married to Dr. Kavita Yadav, a paediatrician at a private hospital in Delhi, who has been a pillar of support throughout.
By rejecting a ₹30 lakh corporate package and choosing public service, Neeraj Yadav demonstrated that purpose and determination can shape an extraordinary journey toward the civil services.
Haryana Celebrates; A Wave of Inspiration Sweeps the State
The success of both candidates has brought immense pride to Haryana. Their families, friends, and local communities have been celebrating since the declaration of results. For the thousands of UPSC aspirants across the country, the journeys of Kanishk and Neeraj serve as a beacon of hope.
Their stories share a common thread: both continued their professional duties without pausing their preparation, both drew strength from their families, and both demonstrated that consistent hard work — day after day — is the most reliable path to success in one of India's toughest competitive examinations.
In an era where shortcuts are often sought and instant results are expected, Kanishk Aggarwal and Neeraj Yadav remind us that true ambition is patient, disciplined, and unstoppable. Haryana's sons have made the nation proud.
The inspiring journeys of Kanishk Aggarwal and Neeraj Yadav prove that perseverance, family support, and consistent effort can lead to extraordinary achievements in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
