UKPCS Age Limit 2026
The candidate's age must be between 21 and 42 years as on 01 July 2026.
Candidates born after 01 July 2005 and before 02 July 1984 do not fall within the prescribed age range for the general age-limit calculation. Age relaxation for eligible reserved categories and other candidates is applicable as per the rules mentioned in the official notification.

UKPCS 2026 Nationality, Age Relaxation & Reservation
Nationality
Candidates must fulfil the nationality conditions prescribed for the examination. The eligibility provisions include Indian citizens and certain other categories recognised under the applicable government rules.
UKPCS Age Relaxation 2026
The prescribed basic age limit is 21 to 42 years as on 01 July 2026. Applicable upper-age relaxation is provided according to the relevant Uttarakhand Government rules.

Reservation Rules
- Vertical and horizontal reservation benefits are available only to candidates who fulfil the applicable Uttarakhand domicile conditions.
- Candidates from outside Uttarakhand may apply under the Unreserved category but cannot claim Uttarakhand-specific reservation benefits.
- Uttarakhand-domiciled women are eligible for horizontal reservation according to the applicable state rules.
- PwBD reservation requires at least 40% disability in an eligible disability category.
- The recruitment notification does not reserve vacancies separately for every horizontal category; applicable horizontal benefits are provided according to the prescribed rules.
EWS Certificate Requirement
The EWS certificate must be issued on the basis of the financial year 2025–26 income and must be valid for financial year 2026–27. A certificate issued before 01 April 2026 is not valid for this purpose. The valid certificate must be held by the candidate by the last date of application.
Ex-Servicemen, Freedom Fighters and Other Horizontal Reservation
Reservation benefits for Uttarakhand ex-servicemen, dependents of freedom fighters, orphans, skilled sportspersons, Uttarakhand state movement activists and other applicable horizontal categories are governed by the relevant state government rules and certificate requirements.

Can candidates from other states apply for the UKPCS Upper PCS exam?
Yes, candidates from outside Uttarakhand can apply under the Unreserved (General) category, provided they meet the prescribed age and educational requirements. Reserved category benefits such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, DFF and Ex-Servicemen benefits are subject to the applicable Uttarakhand domicile and recruitment rules.
Is there an attempt limit for the UKPSC Upper PCS exam?
No attempt limit is prescribed for the UKPSC exam. Candidates can appear as many times as they wish, provided they continue to fulfil the prescribed age limit and other eligibility conditions.
Can final-year college students apply for UKPCS 2026?
No. Candidates must possess the required qualifying degree within the prescribed eligibility period. The relevant result or qualification documents must establish that the candidate possesses the required qualification as specified by UKPSC.
How does the negative marking scheme work in the UKPCS Preliminary Exam?
The Preliminary Examination has a 1/4th (0.25) negative marking penalty for an incorrect answer. Marking more than one option for a question is also treated as an incorrect answer and attracts the applicable penalty. Unattempted questions do not attract a penalty.
Is Paper 2 (CSAT) score added to the UKPCS Prelims merit list?
No. Paper II, the General Aptitude Test, is qualifying in nature. Candidates must secure a minimum of 33%, equivalent to 49.5 marks out of 150. The Preliminary Examination is a screening stage and its marks are not added to the Mains or Interview marks for final merit.
What happens if an error occurs while filling out the UKPCS online application?
Candidates should carefully verify all information before final submission. UKPSC provides a prescribed correction facility after the application process, during which eligible applicants can modify the permitted details. Changes made during the correction process are treated as final.
Is writing in both English and Hindi permitted in the UKPCS Mains descriptive papers?
Candidates should answer the Mains papers in the language permitted for the respective paper, as prescribed by UKPSC. Candidates should follow the language and answer-writing instructions given in the official examination guidelines and avoid mixing languages within a paper where such mixing is not permitted.
