Seven candidates from the Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh region have broken into the top 100 of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 — five of them women, in what is being celebrated as a landmark result for the region.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the results of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 on Friday. Overall, Anuj Agnihotri, a 26-year-old MBBS graduate from AIIMS Jodhpur, secured the national All India Rank 1. The commission recommended a total of 958 candidates — 659 men and 299 women — for appointment to various government services.
Rajeshwari Suve M from Tamil Nadu and Akansh Dhull from Panchkula bagged the second and third national ranks respectively. Akansh, a BCom graduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, cracked the exam in his third attempt. Simrandeep Kaur, whose father is a vegetable farmer, completed her BA and later a Master's in Political Science from Khalsa College, Patiala. She had also qualified the UGC NET in Political Science, but chose to continue preparing for civil services with Political Science as her optional subject. Her persistence paid off in her fourth attempt.
Bhavika Chopra originally took Economics as her optional subject in earlier attempts but smartly switched to Sociology. She had cleared the 2024 examination too and was allotted the Indian Postal Service, but came back to improve her rank.
